Department of Political Science & History

The Department of Political Science was established in 1980 with the motto “Maximum Efforts, Maximum Knowledge and Maximum Realization.” Since its inception, the department has been committed to academic excellence and the holistic development of students. So far, more than 2,000 students have graduated from the department, including 52 University rank holders, of whom 13 have secured First Ranks.

The department takes pride in its distinguished alumni, who are spread across the globe and have made their mark in diverse fields and professions. They include legislators, diplomats, a world wrestling champion, government officials, college principals, IPS officers, elected representatives, eminent legal professionals, international sports personalities, and many others. Their achievements reflect the strong academic and professional foundation provided by the department.

The primary vision of the department is to build a strong foundation in academic knowledge among students, with a special emphasis on the practical application of knowledge for the benefit of society. The department consistently encourages and supports students to actively participate in various academic, cultural, social and co-curricular activities, thereby promoting their overall personality development.

Students play a prominent role in the functioning of the department and take the lead in organizing various innovative and interdisciplinary events and projects. They are encouraged to extend their learning beyond the classroom through community development programmes and participation in the activities of Local Self-Government Institutions, which constitute a major thrust area of the department. Such initiatives provide students with practical exposure to democratic governance, public administration and community participation.

Under the auspices of the Political Science Association, the department organizes academic meetings, lectures and interactive sessions in which eminent personalities and experts address the students on a wide range of contemporary political, social and international issues.

The department regularly conducts workshops, seminars, conferences and discussions, which provide valuable opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge and engage with diverse perspectives. These academic activities contribute significantly to the intellectual and professional development of budding political scientists.

The department places particular emphasis on inculcating a spirit of enquiry, critical thinking and analytical skills among students. It strives to instill in them the values of enlightened citizenship, social responsibility and democratic participation, preparing them to become informed, responsible and active members of society.
